In 2006, NIFT New Delhi students, Narresh Kukreja and Shivan Bhatia, were highly commended and awarded for their 'Bee Hive Bra' entry in the Bizarre Bra Category. In 2007, 'The Weaver Finch Colony' by Pearl Academy's Jayaraj NP won the MainPower WOW Factor Award chosen by Suzie Moncrieff as the most innovative garment. In 2009, Ragini Ahuja and Rishabh Rhode's entry, Multi-Plug, were runner's up in the Shell Student Design Award.

Says H.E. Mr. Rupert Holborow, New Zealand High Commissioner, "The world over, New Zealanders are known for innovation, thinking out of the box and for pushing their creative boundaries. The concept of World of Wearable Art (WOW) stems from this characteristic. WOW has been a platform that allows participants from all over the world to take creativity to a completely different and exciting level. We received an overwhelming response from India last year, and I am delighted to see such creative entries for WOW 2009 from India. I hope this enthusiasm will continue to grow over the years. I also hope more Indian visitors to New Zealand will get a chance to visit the WOW museum in the picturesque South Island city of Nelson."

Says Mr. Cliff Fuller, New Zealand's Trade Commissioner, "The WOW concept goes beyond the traditional notion of artistic expression and shares an intricate relationship with innovation and art, as is evident from the designs showcased tonight. Creative connections and new ways of thinking are often the deciding factor for success in business in today's world. It gives me immense pleasure to be associated with an event that extends New Zealand's relationship with India beyond business ties to find creative connections, and we look forward to continued support from India in the years to come."

The FDCI and WOW have been in partnership since 2005, to promote and encourage Indian participation for its annual show in New Zealand. An enthusiastic response from young Indian designers has been received since then, with garment entries flooding in each year. Twelve entries by Indian finalists short listed by the FDCI are being sent to New Zealand for further scanning by the jury at WOW for selection, to showcase their designs at the WOW Show held in Wellington in September.
