31 finalists for 2011 iD International Emerging Designer Awards

Opening doors into fashion careers from iD Dunedin's runway to catwalks in Milan and New York, 31 finalists have been selected to show at the 2011 iD International Emerging Designer Awards. The Awards will be held on Thursday, 7 April 2011, at the Lion Foundation Arena, Edgar Stadium, Dunedin, New Zealand.

Now in its seventh year, the 2011 iD International Emerging Designer Awards attracted more than 120 entries from 20 countries, representing some of the most prestigious fashion schools in the world. The finalists are from nine different countries and despite increasing global competition, the number of New Zealand and Australian finalists up from previous years.

The finalists' collections represent the best of emerging fashion design, with creative and inspirational uses of textiles and new fabric technologies.

From New Zealand, the finalists are:

• Auckland University of Technology: Sarah Atkins; Lucie Sutichunta; Renuka Pana.
• Massey University: Marie Kelly; Lucy McIntosh; Greer Sharrock Osborne; Aihua Wei.
• Otago Polytechnic: Amelia Boland; Natasha Johnston; Yue Hui (Faye) Ma; Roxanna Zamani.
• Whitecliffe College of Art and Design: Julia Campbell; Nour Hassan.

From Australia, the finalists are:

• Queensland University of Technology: Shenaz Engineer.
• Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology: Renee Bock; Kate Bolzonello; Takahiro Kunitoshi; Jo Templin.
• University of Technology, Sydney: Alexandra Kenworthy; Sarah Mok; Laura Poole; Hui Vivien Zhang.

From the United Kingdom, the finalists are:

• Royal College of Art, London: Miyoko Kamijo; Marielle Van De Ven.
• University of East London: Bunmi Olaye.
• From Belgium, the finalist is:
• Royal Academy of Fine Arts: Michael Kampe.

From Croatia, the finalist is:

• School for textile, design and art, Osijek: Tomislav Durdevic.

From Germany, the finalist is:

• ESMOD, Berlin: Fibi Wiebke Truebner.

From Israel, the finalist is:

• Shenkar College of Engineering and Design: Hadas Katz.

From the Netherlands, the finalist is:

• ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, Arnhem: Sarah Petersen.

From Spain, the finalist is:

• Escuela Superior de Diseno y Moda: Ariadna Rovira Lorente.

The selection panel comprised of renowned New Zealand fashion designers Margi Robertson (Nom*D), Tanya Carlson (Carlson), Charmaine Reveley (charmaine reveley).

The iD International Emerging Designer Awards is the only fashion competition of its kind in New Zealand offering rising national and international fashion design talent their first foray into the world of professional fashion events. For many, this experience serves as their rite of passage into the fashion industry.

The sought after prizes include NZ$5,000 for first place winner, $3,000 for second place, $1000 for third place. Other special prizes to be announced.
