Alice Wedge earns student sought-after internship at ESCADA

A fashion design student at Nottingham Trent University has earned herself a sought-after internship at international luxury fashion company, ESCADA, after winning an illustration competition. Alice Wedge, who studies in the University's School of Art and Design, will undertake a six month internship at the ESCADA Design Department in Munich, Germany, after winning the group's 'Drawing Fashion' challenge.
Design students from more than 280 UK and Ireland universities were invited to produce a hand-drawn sketch of an evening dress which fitted the ESCADA brand of 'modern elegance, glamour and sensual feminity'. Third year student Alice designed a striking red dress with a lace back and a full, structural silhouette, giving the piece a contemporary yet classic feel. It was selected as the overall winner by ESCADA Design Director, Daniel Wingate.
As part of the competition brief, ESCADA will also produce Alice's dress for a future collection.
Alice said: "Having always loved fashion design and illustration I really enjoyed this challenge and I am delighted to have won the competition. I worked very hard to capture the ESCADA identity and I can't wait to start working in Munich, what a great opportunity to kick start my career in fashion design. I'm also extremely pleased that my design will be produced for a future ESCADA collection, I can't wait to see it."
Daniel Wingate said: "It is with great pleasure that we announce Alice Wedge as the winner of the ESCADA Design Museum Competition for her beautiful illustration with its wonderful composition line, quality, and colour choice which embodies all aspects of the ESCADA woman."
Gilly Staples, fashion design course leader at Nottingham Trent University, said: "I thought Alice's illustration was marvellous. We knew her style and were certain that she would do well in this competition. The internship is a fantastic opportunity, we're all absolutely delighted for her."
The competition was run to celebrate the Design Museum's Drawing Fashion exhibition, which came to an end this month and for which ESCADA was one of the sponsors. The exhibition celebrated a unique collection of some of the most remarkable fashion illustrations of the 20th and 21st Centuries.
