Sourcing at Magic to focus on sustainability in fashion

Sourcing at Magic, a global fashion event, to be held from August 12 to 15, 2018, in Las Vegas, will focus on sustainability and using innovation to accelerate sustainability in apparel production. Sourcing at Magic will show how to close the loop on production, processing, and recycling by bringing environmentally-friendly practices to the forefront.

A documentary ‘Riverblue’, narrated by Jason Priestly, will be aired on August 13, 2018, in the North hall, level 2, room N250. Riverblue spans the globe to infiltrate one of the world’s most pollutive industries, fashion. The documentary follows international river conservationist, Mark Angelo, and examines the destruction of our rivers, its effect on humanity, and the solutions that inspire hope for a sustainable future.

This will be followed by a panel discussion with denim industry leaders Roger Williams, executive producer, Riverblue; Adriano Goldschmied, CEO, Genius Group; Francois Girbaud, co-founder, Marithe & Francois Girbaud; Alex Penades, brand director, Jeanologia; and ADAM Taubenfligel, creative director, Triarchy.

The event will host sustainability-focussed seminars. Lilian Liu, manager of partnerships, United Nations Global Compact and Avedis Seferian, president and CEO, Wrap will talk on the topic ‘Responsible Business Practices Are Paramount: Why Sustainability And Ethical Sourcing Are A Must At All Levels Of The Market.’

Kristine Upeslehja, founder and president, Madisons Innovative will talk on ‘Engineering Fashion - Trends And Concepts For A New Materials World.’

Tony, chief sourcing and merchandising officer, Haggar, Jay Hertwig, global brand sales and marketing manager, Unific Inc.; Brokie Lineweaver, global retail marketing, Unifi Inc.; Stuart Wood, founder and CEO, Last Bottle Clothing will discuss on ‘Moving The Needle In The Sustainable Direction: One Garment At A Time.’

Greensole, a company that recycles discarded shoes to comfortable footwear, keeping them away from landfills and provide them to children in need, will create an installation the show floor – made of shoes. (GK)
