USFIA delegation to visit Uzbekistan to study potential

A delegation of the US Fashion Industry Association (USFIA) led by its president Julia Hughes will visit Uzbekistan in the first half of this year to study the country’s textile potential. A round table and expo of the Uzbek textile industry will also be organised in New York in February or March in which USFIA member brands will participate.
This was arrived at after a recent meeting of Hughes with Uzbek ambassador to the United States Javlon Vahabov in Washington, DC, according to Uzbek media reports.
Hughes was informed about the measures taken by Uzbekistan to liberalize the national economy and create a favourable investment climate. Special attention was paid to the progress made by Uzbekistan in recent years in eradicating forced labour.
Last December, director general of the International Labour Organisation Guy Ryder visited Uzbekistan to monitor cotton picking there.
Leading US brands are in search of new suppliers and imports from Central Asian countries are are in rising demand, Hughes added. (DS)
