Nike's subsidiary NikeGO announced it has presented a $175,000 cash donation to Portland Parks & Recreation. The funds will be used to expand Portland Parks & Recreation's Summer Playgrounds Program to 10 sites and continue the development of NikeGO cards for low-income children, to provide them with access to a full menu of after-school activities and weekend programs during the school year.

Cash gift includes support for expansion of Summer Playgrounds Program and NikeGO cards for use by low-income youth; Combined funds will benefit thousands of kids participating in numerous active recreation programs across Portland

"I want to thank NikeGO for their ongoing funding for Portland Parks & Recreation so all families can participate in fun and healthy recreational activities,” said Zari Santner, Director of Portland Parks & Recreation. “This type of public-private partnership does a great deal to help improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods and make Portland a truly a great place to live, work, and play."

A NikeGO donation of $100,000 will go towards expanding Portland Parks & Recreation's popular Summer Playgrounds Program, which NikeGO has supported for the last two years and will expand to 10 sites this summer. The grant funds will staff each playground with a recreation specialist who will receive custom training from NikeGO curriculum partner SPARK (Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids). Participating youth will also receive afree, nutritious lunch as part of the program. Summer Playgrounds Program sites include: Alberta, Essex, Harney, Irving, Kenton, Lents, McKenna, Oregon, Peninsula and Woodlawn. Each site is expected to host 300 kids a day throughout the summer.
