Thailand textile dyeing units to reduce wastewater

Textile dyeing factories in Thailand will implement a pilot project for treatment of wastewater in cooperation with the Depatment of Industrial Works (DIW).
For the purpose, ten textile bleaching, dyeing and printing companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the DIW.
Mr. Somsak Jantararoungtong, who signed the MoU on behalf of DIW, said the model project would serve as an example for waste management through cooperation of communities living in the vicinity of textile units.
During the project implementation phase, wastewater released from textile units would be measured as per ISO 26000 and DIW standards.
In addition, the members of community living in the vicinity of textile units would be imparted more information and understanding of laws related to industrial units and wastewater treatment.
After an eight-month monitoring period, based on the performance of the ten participating textile units, a guideline would be framed for the use of other factories.
The industrial sector accounts for 15 percent of Thailand’s total wastewater release.
