In a notable strategic shift, Hindalco is set to make its debut in garment manufacturing through the park. Part of the Aditya Birla Group, the company’s move is expected to complement the group’s established presence in textiles, led by Grasim Industries’ dominant position in viscose fibre and yarn.
The sanctioned amount will fund land preparation, internal roads, power connectivity, water supply, drainage systems and other common facilities to make the park investment-ready.
The textile park is positioned as a diversification initiative for Keonjhar, aimed at building a non-mining industrial ecosystem. Infrastructure development will be undertaken in phases, after which textile and garment manufacturers are expected to set up production units, according to media reports from the state.
Hindalco has proposed a seven-acre garment manufacturing unit with an annual production capacity of around 24 lakh garments for domestic and export markets. The project is expected to generate significant employment, particularly for youth and women in the region.
State authorities indicated that additional apparel companies are evaluating investment proposals. While ₹100 crore has been earmarked for park development, total private investment is expected to exceed the public outlay as units are established.
