Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Faruque Hassan and vice president Miran Ali recently met Stephen Lamar, president and chief executive officer of the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) in Washington DC and discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and deepen business engagement.

Hassan highlighted the unprecedented strides made by Bangladesh's readymade garment (RMG) industry over the years in safety, sustainability and social compliance, BGMEA said in a release.

He urged AAFA to promote Bangladesh as a safe and sustainable apparel-sourcing destination among its members and encourage them to source more garments including non-cotton items from the country.

Hassan welcomed investment from AAFA members in Bangladesh, particularly in non-cotton and technical textiles and high-end apparel items.
