Canada imported apparel worth $234.062 million from India between January and August 2024, representing 3.35 per cent of its total apparel imports of $7.097 billion during the same period. Other major suppliers to Canada included China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Italy, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
India fell from fifth to sixth position in Canada’s apparel imports when compared to the same period last year. Canada’s imports from India were $274.655 million during January to August 2023, accounting for 3.67 per cent of the total imports of $7.471 billion. India was ahead of Italy but behind the top four suppliers. Nevertheless, India remained sixth in 2023 overall, with total imports valued at $362.614 million out of Canada’s $10.858 billion apparel imports, as per the data obtained from TexPro.
In 2022, India held fifth place, with Canada importing $413.189 million worth of apparel from the country, making up 3.32 per cent of the total $12.440 billion in apparel imports.
Canada, a developed nation, saw a notable increase in apparel imports in 2022 compared to 2021, when it imported $9.674 billion worth of apparel. Imports from India that year totalled $281.493 million, representing 2.91 per cent of the overall figure, placing India sixth behind five larger suppliers.
