Shirts & T-shirts account for 33% of India's apparel exports in 2022

Shirts and T-shirts were the leading apparel products in India's total apparel exports during 2022. Trade data revealed that India exported 18.23 per cent shirts and 15.32 per cent T-shirts, in its total exports valued at $16.659 billion in the same period. Trousers and shorts accounted for 12.19 per cent of the total apparel shipment.

India exported shirts worth $3.037 billion (18.23 per cent), and T-shirts valued at $2.551 billion (15.32 per cent) in 2022. Dresses made up 14.77 per cent of total exports, amounting to $2.459 billion, while trousers and shorts were valued at $2.030 billion (12.19 per cent). Among the top five export items, other categories ranked at the bottom, with a value of $1.702 billion (10.22 per cent), according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.

In the list of top ten items, baby wear exports reached $1.322 billion (7.94 per cent), nightwear $807.783 million (4.85 per cent), innerwear $683.060 million (4.10 per cent), jerseys $432.409 million (2.60 per cent), and accessories $412.677 million (2.48 per cent).

Cotton apparel dominated the classification of shipments based on material type, comprising 55.81 per cent of total exports. Apparel exports made from other materials accounted for 24.71 per cent, man-made materials 18.21 per cent, wool/animal hair 1.01 per cent, and silk 0.26 per cent, as per TexPro.
