Turkiye's apparel exports ease 3.27% YoY in January-June 2023

Turkiye's apparel exports experienced a decline of 3.27 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in the period from January to June 2023, bringing the total exports to $9.49 billion, compared to $9.811 billion during the same period in 2022, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute and the country's ministry of trade. During June 2023, exports again slipped 12.68 per cent to settle at $1.570 billion. The shipment had witnessed a growth of 27 per cent in May 2023. 

The export of knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories (HS chapter 61) amounted to $5.133 billion during January-June 2023, representing a decrease of 5.6 per cent from the $5.440 billion in the corresponding period the previous year. On the other hand, non-knitted apparel and accessories (HS chapter 62) were valued at $4.357 billion, showing an increase of 0.3 per cent compared to the $4.371 billion in exports during January-June 2022. 

In June 2023, the most recent month for which data is available, Turkiye's total exports of both knitted and non-knitted clothing and accessories decreased by 12.68 per cent to $1.570 billion, compared to $1.798 billion in June 2022. The exports of knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories decreased by 13.6 per cent, amounting to $877.263 million in June 2023, compared to $1,015.753 million in the same period the previous year. The shipment of non-knitted apparel and accessories also decreased by 11.5 per cent, from $783.339 million in June 2022 to $693.532 million in June 2023. 

In 2022, Turkiye's apparel exports increased by 6.46 per cent to $19.475 billion, compared to $18.294 billion in 2021.
