India’s plastics exports rose by 8.0 per cent year-on-year to $12.47 billion in fiscal 2025 (FY25), significantly outperforming the country’s overall merchandise exports, which saw a marginal 0.1 per cent uptick to $437.4 billion, as per a report by The Plastics Export Promotion Council (PLEXCONCIL).
In March 2025, plastics exports climbed 4.1 per cent to $1.16 billion, led by strong demand across categories such as FIBCs, plastic pipes and fittings, films and sheets, and medical items.
The highest growth was seen in exports of Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBCs), woven sacks, and tarpaulins, which surged 13.1 per cent, setting a two-year record. Plastic pipes and fittings exports jumped 17.4 per cent, and FRP & composites rose 12.3 per cent, PLEXCONCIL noted.
Other notable increases were observed in medical plastics (up 8.4 per cent), plastic films and sheets (7.9 per cent), and miscellaneous polypropylene articles (13.8 per cent).
However, some categories saw declines. Plastic raw materials exports dropped 7.6 per cent due to weaker sales of polyethylene and polypropylene grades, while floor coverings and laminates fell 2.8 per cent. Cordage and fishnets recorded a marginal dip of 0.2 per cent.
