The objective of the fest was to find and support the future of the fashion industry in all fields and to highlight the importance of the educational system and the role of institutes for training and developing young talent in fashion.
Entries were received from many students of fashion design institutes of Surat, including from the IDT. The students had to pass through three stages—sketching round, sampling round, and the final jury round.
As part of recognition, the top three winners were honoured with a cash prize of ₹5,000, ₹3,000 and ₹2,100. The selected garments will be showcased at the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), the leading and most representative association of the Indian apparel industry for over four decades.
"IDT congratulates all the participants whose creations got selected and wishes them luck for their future endeavours," said IDT director Anupam Goyal in a statement.
"Being the pioneer in integrating academic and industries, IDT has always celebrated the talent and fresh design ideas related to the designing world. We are grateful to Rakesh Sarawagi, director, Siddhi Vinayak Knots & Prints Private Limited, for providing emerging professionals the opportunity to showcase their work and gain exposure in the arena of fashion design industry.
"We urge Sarawagi to keep providing industrial platform to the budding designers and IDT will keep serving the textile industry with brilliant designers and their innovations," Goyal added.
"It wouldn’t be wrong to say: If it is the best in the textile industry, it has to be with Laxmipati; and if it has to be the best in the design education, it has to be with IDT," the statement said.
