Fast Retailing, Japan-based Uniqlo’s parent company, has had its 2030 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Its science-based targets (SBTs) are in line with what the latest climate science needed to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement to meet the criteria of 1.5°C, according to the retail firm.

The company has committed to reduce 90 per cent scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions from its own operations, such as stores and main offices, by FY2030 from its base year FY2019. Fast Retailing has also committed to reduce 20 per cent scope 3 GHG emissions, from production of raw materials for products, fabric production, and garment manufacturing, within the same time frame.

In addition to this, the Japanese retail giant is also committed to increase the sourcing of renewable electricity to 100 per cent by FY2030.

Fast Retailing is now implementing measures based on these targets to reduce GHG emissions from its own operations and in its supply chain. Further, the company is strengthening measures to achieve net zero GHG emissions by 2050.
