Japanese March apparel imports dip in volume

Japan’s apparel imports for March 2013 grew in terms of value but dipped volume-wise.
Posting a year-on-year rise of just 2.2 percent, imports grew to 210,948 million yen in terms of value, however, volume-wise it dipped by 10.3 percent to 341.94 million units, a report of a Japan Textiles Importers Association derived from Ministry of Finance trade statistics shows.
Knitwear import volumes plummeted by 9.3 percent to 228.56 million units, however, value-wise it grew by 5.2 percent to 100,863 million yen.
Meanwhile, woven garment imports experienced a dip both in terms of value and volume. Value-wise it dipped by 0.3 percent to 110,085 million yen, while volume-wise it plunged 12.2 percent to 113.37 million units.
Apparel imports from China, the leading supplier, also plunged by 13.4 percent to 271.53 million units valued at 55,677 million yen, 3 percent lower from a year ago.
