January 09, 2017 - Sudan

A clothing factory to produce military and police uniforms has been inaugurated in the north African country of Sudan. The new production lines at the Sur International Investment Company Ltd in Khartoum are scheduled to open next May. In addition to manufacturing clothing for the Sudanese army, the factory will export to Qatar, Turkey, Kenya and Somalia.

Sur International was founded in 2003 by the Sudanese ministry of defence and Turkish investors with an aim to meet the military uniform needs of the Sudanese army. The company is the leading supplier of Sudan Army and Sudan Public Bodies for 13 years.

Qatari Armed forces joined the project in June 2013, and provided funds that helped the company transform into an integrated military textile company that is able to produce all kinds of textile products for the military and police forces in Africa and Middle East countries.

Since 2006, the company has increased its production capacity by over 300 per cent. Currently, the factory employs 1,400 people. (RKS)
