Safety standards for infants clothing from next month
September 19, 2008 - China
China's first national safety standards specially developed for the clothing industry for infants and young children will be implemented starting from next month.
The new standards have been incorporated considering the characteristics of infants and young children who love to pull and bite clothing.
Collar length, quality of slider fastener, content of heavy metals residue and the length and strength of tying strings are among the few new parameters taken in to account while preparing the new standards.
The most important standard which has been taken in to consideration is with regards to the level of formaldehyde and arsenic content which should not exceed 20 mg. per kg. and 0.2 mg. per kg. respectively.
One of the other standards clearly states that product labels on garments meant for infants must clearly specify “No Dry Cleaning”, since there might be chemicals in the dry-cleaning liquids that might affect the soft skins of infants.
