Identified surplus staff at AWI may recieve pink slips

The mission of Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) is to drive research, development, innovation and marketing that will increase the long-term profitability of Australian woolgrowers.

AWI invests in global R&D, innovation and marketing through the entire wool pipeline – from farm to fashion house – in the areas of wool production, textile product development, marketing and industry affairs. Established in 2001, AWI is a not-for-profit company owned by more than 29,000 Australian farmers.

But even a not-for-profit organization has to keep an eye on its bottom line. In line with global trends, the organization is taking steps, not in lien with its philosophy of handing out pink slips. The company is cutting its redundant corporate affairs team. The organization has a shortfall of Aus $7-10 million in its funding and needs to cut back on spending.

The organization has identified the corporate affairs team as surplus that it can do without, but at the same time cannot cut on other programs like wool production, marketing and development. More such measures can be expected from the organization in the coming months.
