Symposium on automotive textiles to be held in New Delhi

December 22, 2008 - India

The Indian automotive industry has experienced an unprecedented boom in the recent years growing strongly at a CAGR of around 16%. This boom is triggered primarily by factors like increase in disposable incomes and standards of living of middle class Indian families and the Indian government's liberalization measures.

Further as travel has become an integral party of everyone’s life, issues such as comfort and safety have taken on a high priority. All these factors clearly indicate brilliant prospects for the automotive textile industry which will lead to consequent increased demand of the technical textile components used in automobiles.

In order to tap the growing demand of these textiles and to avoid imports, domestic enterprises must gear up production and supply of automotive textiles such as webbings, airbags, nylon tyre cord, seat covers, headliners, helmets, safety belts, interior carpets etc.

In today's economic scenario when the Indian automotive industry is in the midst of a major structural transformation the Indian businesses must work towards retaining the attractiveness of the Indian market and further enhance competitiveness in the market place. The advantageous path to move ahead is identification of appropriate technology which would be required to produce internationally competitive products.
