J&K handicrafts to open new showrooms in three states

To increase the sales of handicrafts and to improve the earnings of artisans, Jammu and Kashmir Handicrafts Corporation has decided to open three new showrooms outside the state. These showrooms would be opened in Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Gurgoan, informed a spokesman of the Corporation.

The decision was taken at the meeting of board of directors with state industries and Commerce Minister Mr. S S Slathia. The Corporation has already started to renovate its branch at Irwin Road, New Delhi, he added.

In the current fiscal, the Corporation has fixed a target of Rs. 11.13 crore. Various expos and exhibitions would also be organized in various cities of the country as well as at different places in overseas markets by the Corporation.

Mr. Slathia said in the meeting that to promote the age old local arts and crafts of the state, it is necessary to provide financial assistance and advanced techniques to the artisans.

The Corporation is also planning to set up a food court in the Emporium showroom at Srinagar. A franchise food chain of international repute would be set up for the foreign tourists in this food court, informed the spokesman.
