China's retail sales rise 3.7% in 2025 as consumption steadies

China's retail sales of consumer goods, a major indicator of the country's consumption strength, climbed 3.7 per cent year on year (YoY) in 2025, according to official data by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Total retail sales of consumer goods reached 50.12 trillion yuan (~$7.15 trillion) last year. In December alone, the retail sales of consumer goods rose 0.9 per cent YoY.

China's value-added industrial output expanded 5.9 per cent YoY in 2025. In December alone, China's industrial output increased by 5.2 per cent YoY, said Chinese media reports quoting NBS data.

Meanwhile, the industrial output saw an annual main business turnover of at least 20 million yuan (~$2.8 million). Manufacturing sector grew by 6.4 per cent. The value-added output of the electricity, heat, gas, and water production and supply sectors rose by 2.3 per cent, added the NBS data.
