The Apparel Export Promotion Council of India (AEPC) recently said it has sought special costing proposals from e-commerce firm Amazon for selling masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) kits through its portal. It has also urged the government to lift the ban on export of PPE kits at the earliest. The ban was imposed in January on account of the COVID-19 outbreak.

AEPC chairman A Sakthivel expects the company to work out special rates for masks and PPE kits for AEPC members, he said during a webinar on ‘How to start exporting through B2C e-commerce'’ jointly organised by the council and Amazon.

While Indian players have already started exporting non-medical and designer masks, they have also started preparing for getting the international certifications needed before exporting, he said in a statement.

More than 400 manufacturers have got their products tested and approved by the government, he was quoted as saying by a news agency.

The council has also requested the government to help exporters get accreditation from Europe’s Conformité and Européene or the CE marking, and a certification from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to export PPE to the European Union and the United States.
