Australian retail turnover rises by 0.6% in October 2024

Australia's retail sector experienced a 0.6 per cent increase in turnover during October 2024, as per seasonally adjusted data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The rise follows a modest 0.1 per cent growth in September and a 0.7 per cent increase in August.

Performance across industries was mixed. Non-food sectors saw notable gains, with other retailing up by 1.6 per cent. However, declines were observed in clothing, footwear, and personal accessory retailing, which fell by 0.6 per cent, and department stores, which dipped by 0.3 per cent.

Robert Ewing, ABS head of business statistics, said: “After a steady result last month retailers told us that sales activity grew in October ahead of the Black Friday sales.”
