The slight rise was primarily attributed to a surge in food inflation. Point-to-point food inflation increased a bit to 8.29 per cent in January compared to 7.71 per cent in December, BBS data showed.
On the other hand, the non-food inflation rate declined to 8.81 per cent in January from 9.13 per cent in the previous month, according to domestic media reports.
Inflation in both rural and urban areas witnessed slight rises in the last month.
