On a monthly basis, CPI rose by 0.3 per cent in December, down from 0.4 per cent in the same month in 2023.
The largest upward contribution to the monthly change in CPI annual rate came from transport.
Core CPI (excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco) rose by 3.2 per cent in the 12 months to December, down from 3.5 per cent in November; the CPI goods annual rate rose from 0.4 per cent to 0.7 per cent.
The CPI 12-month rate for clothing and footwear was 1.1 per cent in December last year, down from 2 per cent in November. On a monthly basis, the CPI for the sector was minus 0.5 per cent in December, down from 0.4 per cent in the same month in 2023.
