Sri Lanka's headline inflation dips to 2.4% in Jan from 2.9% in Dec

The overall rate of inflation in Sri Lanka, as measured by the national consumer price index (NCPI), fell to 2.4 per cent in January this year compared to 2.9 per cent in December last year, according to latest data released by the Department of Census and Statistics.

The year-on-year non-food inflation remained unchanged at 1.6 per cent in the month.

The non-food group contributed 0.9 per cent to the headline inflation rate in January.

The index value of clothing and footwear increased in the month.

Core inflation, which excludes food, energy and transport groups, decreased to 2.2 per cent in January from 2.6 per cent in December 2025, a department release said.
