  • Colombia has removed tariffs on synthetic and cotton yarns to lower input costs and strengthen its textile, apparel and footwear industries. The decision follows volatile yarn imports and rising pressure from low-priced Asian competition. By reducing reliance on informal sourcing and improving conversion margins, the policy aims to lift production, support jobs and encourage new investment.

The decision announced by the government also extends to additional raw materials used in footwear and related sectors, signalling a broader industrial support framework, according to Colombian media reports.

By lowering input costs across multiple value chains, the measure seeks to ease pressure on manufacturers and support job creation in one of the country’s most labour-intensive sectors.
