New ASTM test method supports geogrids

ASTM International, a leader in international standards development, has developed a new test method that will support geogrids.
 
The test described in the standard D7864/D7864M (Test Method for Determining the Aperture Stability Modulus of Geogrids) will help ensure that geogrids meet product specific calibrated and validated levels of aperture stability, ASTM said on its website.
 
Geogrids are a geosynthetic formed of a regular network of integrally connected elements with openings, referred to as apertures that ensure strong and resilient roads by stabilising surrounding soil and rock.
 
The new test method was developed for subgrade stabilisation calibrated design methods that require the input of aperture stability modulus. It is already popular in the geosynthetics industry, helping to measure in-plane rotation, the website said.
 
ASTM International, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), is recognised globally for development and delivery of international voluntary consensus standards. Today, some 12,000 ASTM standards are used around the world to improve product quality, enhance safety, facilitate market access and trade, and build consumer confidence. (RKS)
