India’s chemical exports were worth $29,296 million in fiscal 2021-22, registering a growth of 106 per cent over $14,210 million in 2013-14, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said in a tweet. The export growth has been achieved due to a surge in shipments of organic, inorganic and speciality chemicals, agrochemicals, dyes and dye intermediates.

India is the sixth largest producer of chemicals in the world and third largest in Asia. It ranks 14th in the export of chemicals.

India leads in dyes production and contributes to 16-18 per cent to the world’s dyestuff exports. Indian dyes are exported to over 90 countries. India is the 4th largest producer of agrochemicals in the world and manufactures more than half of technical-grade pesticides, an official release said.

This export growth has been achieved in spite of unprecedented logistical challenges like high freight rates and container shortage, the release added.

Increase in chemical products exports has benefitted small and medium exporters from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
