As part of the Global Textiles Dialogue Knowledge Sessions, ‘Cluster Conversation - How India's MSME Textile Clusters are leading the Sustainability Drive’ was held on Friday at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, during Bharat Tex 2025. It was chaired by Pabitra Margherita, India’s Minister of State for the Ministry of Textiles and External Affairs, and co-chaired by Sunil Handunneththi, the Sri Lankan Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development.
“In terms of renewable energy, we produce 2,000 megawatts through windmills and 250 megawatts via solar power. We use 350 megawatts for our industry and the rest is supplied to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. Keeping climate change risks in mind, we have planted 2.2 million trees with a 90 per cent survival rate, which has helped clean 7,000 metric tons of CO2,” Subramanian said at the session.
Adding to this, Kumar Duraiswamy, joint secretary of TEA, mentioned that India is one of the oldest nations and our culture inherently values sustainability. Based on this principle, Tiruppur industries are embracing and implementing these practices, taking them forward into action.
“We take our environmental responsibilities very seriously, and it is the collaborative approach between the local government, NGOs, and industry stakeholders that has brought us here. In Tiruppur, we are all committed to leaving a better environment for future generations,” he added.
