The four-day second Cambodia International Machinery Industrial Fair (CIMIF 2012) has begun in Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh.

Leading global brands of industrial equipment for textiles, garment and accessories are among the more than 200 exhibitors from 20 countries displaying their products.

The exhibition provides a platform for traders, buyers, manufacturers, distributors and government officials to exchange ideas for development of industrial sector.

The expo also provides manufacturers with a chance to modernize their machinery so as to enhance their production capacity, according to the organizers of the event.

Inaugurating the exhibition, Mao Thora, Secretary of State at Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce, said the garment sector in Cambodia accounts for about 75 percent to the country’s industrial sector.

The CIMIF provides a chance to garment and textile factory owners in the Kingdom to directly meet with machinery suppliers, he said.

As per the data from the Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia’s garment and textile exports during the first half of the current year were worth US$ 2.1 billion, a rise of 8.12 percent compared to exports worth US$ 1.93 billion achieved during the corresponding period of previous year.

Garments and textiles contribute more than 80 percent to Cambodia’s overall exports.
