Sourcing at Magic to focus on smart design & manufacturing

The Sourcing at Magic show 2019, to be held from February 4-7, 2019, is set to focus on smart design and advanced manufacturing. The leading trade fair tends to attract apparel manufacturing, component, technology, and service providers from around the world. It is organised by UBM Fashion, the leading producer of world-renowned fashion tradeshows.

Smart design and advanced manufacturing are changing the game – making businesses more flexible, more collaborative, and lean. These areas are evolving at record speed and creating a wave of new efficiencies that are forcing the industry to listen and shift. Topics to be discussed at the show include make design changes in real time digitally, digital rendering of design in 3-D, 3D to 2D digital pattern rendering, smart colour management ‘rip’ system, and create and manage a virtual inventory.

Advanced manufacturing will include topics like precision cutting of textile materials, working with advanced materials, digital ‘direct to garment’ printing (cotton and synthetics), and sublimation printing, according to a press release on the show.

Sourcing at Magic will help connect to new technology solutions that can lower inventories and increase speed to market in business. One can experience design software, trend + colour innovations, and new machinery within the show’s newly launched smart-tech area.

The show will provide the experience of the technology that will move business into the future and give a live demo of ‘Advanced Manufacturing’ machinery and equipment. There will be a 15,000-20,000 square feet dedicated floor space. The expo will showcase the machinery and software to run and efficient micro-factory. Presenting exhibitors include Tukatech and Mutoh.

Within the demo, micro-factory includes the Styku body scanner, Cad system creating the style to a 3D form, and the software to manage files that will take the images in the Cad system and convert them to patterns and markers and send to the printer by Tukatech. Mutoh will provide the direct to fabric digital printer and heat press for post treatment of printing. The automatic laser cutter guided by camera technology by Tukatech will accelerate sewn-goods manufacturing with eco-friendly and agile automatic fabric cutting machines. Sewing stations will be provided by Royal Exclusive Cutting & Sewing Machines.

The show will have seminars on smart design and manufacturing. ‘Fashion Design Is All About Tech And Innovation: Make Sure You Have The Skills’ will be moderated by Frances Harder, president, Fashion for Profit. Speakers include Stefano Aldighieri, president, Another Design Studio 2.0, Jennifer Lynn Peterson, designer, Silver Jeans, and Ram Sareen, head coach-founder, Tukatech.

‘Production For The Fashion Futurist’ will be held by Peter Kilduff Ph.D. professor, apparel merchandising, & management Cal Poly Pomona and Ram Sareen. They will also speak on the topic ‘What Technology You Should Be Aware Of In 2019 And Beyond’.

The Fashion Snoops Trend installation will feature fresh trends, colours, and new looks for 2019. With four concept spaces, featuring different scents, colours, and materials for 2019, this all-new space designed by the talented Irene Berthezene will be next to the Resource centre and will be a ‘must see’ installation.

Vintage Archives: Morphew /paradox will feature trends, colours, fabrics, and vintage pieces from some of the very best designers. Aztex Denim Trend Display will show newest denim selection, latest trends, and cutting edge technologies the industry has to offer. Pantone will host this lounge featuring a plethora of colours including Pantone’s colour of the year Living Coral. (GK)
