Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) called 2016 a positive year, in which it offered research, development and marketing for woolgrowers, while also signalling a stronger digital future for wool at its Annual General Meeting (AGM). At the AGM, AWI CEO Stuart McCullough also made reference to the 2016-19 strategic plan, under which the company is now working.

McCullough outlined how the industry enjoys a strong position, buoyed by increased demand at retail and new fabric designs and innovations.

He dwelt on how, AWI initiatives allowed woolgrowers to grow their flock through increased productivity, better reproductive performance, genetic advancement while protecting it from issues such as wild dog predation and flystrike.

At the AGM, the Wool Exchange Portal Working Group (WEP-WG) voted unanimously to support the development of a Wool Exchange Portal.

The AWI Board requested the WEP-WG to return to the Board in April 2017, with a costing, timing and business case model for funding approval of the Wool Exchange Portal. (AR)
