Fixed asset investment projects valued at more than $4.685 billion have been approved by the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) in 2022, which is an increase of 7 per cent year-on-year (YoY). Final registration certificates were issued for new non-special economic zones (SEZ) investment projects valued at $3,449 million—up 49 per cent YoY, as per a CDC report.

Investment projects which were registered in the SEZ dropped by 39 per cent to around $1,235 million. Cambodia’s local investment projects worth $2,707 million comprised 57 per cent of the total investment in the country, the CDC said.

The Southeast Asian country’s foreign investment from China accounted for 30 per cent—valued at $1,408 million. Other countries that invested in Cambodia were Australia, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand, according to several Cambodian media reports.

A new investment law was passed in Cambodia in October 2021 that enabled the provision of certain advance incentives and protection to investors to promote investment in the nation.
