The third Cotton USA Sourcing Fair in Hong Kong by the Cotton Council International (CCI), which was held on April 10 and 11, 2018, gave global sourcing assistance for US cotton. The fair gave assistance for companies looking to buy US cotton fibre and yarns to develop high quality textile products. CCI is the global marketing arm of the US cotton industry.

The event brought together approximately 350 participants from 18 countries, including garment and fabric manufacturers, yarn mills, brands and retailers. Buyers and sellers of US cotton-rich textiles held more than 2,000 meetings over the two-day period.

Barry Evans, CCI guest speaker and Texas cotton producer said, “The Cotton USA Sourcing Fair gave mills, manufacturers, brands, and retailers, with a huge global sales network, a closer look at US cotton fibre, its sustainable production, and our industry’s commitment to quality cotton, as well as for attendees to build important business relationships throughout the supply chain. Cotton USA is the cotton the world trusts because our family farmers constantly use and pursue the latest innovations and technologies to deliver uniform, consistent, sustainable and contamination-free cotton for less downtime, more productivity and superior quality yarn, fabric and products.”

Registrants included 16 yarn suppliers, 58 fabric suppliers, 44 garment suppliers, and 41 brands/retailers from countries like Bangladesh, China, Colombia, Germany, Honduras, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Pakistan, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam.

Keynote speakers during the event included Barry Evans; Jerry Marshall, president Yiyang Trading; and Karin Malmstrom, CCI director for China, Hong Kong and NE Asia. CCI was honoured with a guest appearance by US Consul General for Hong Kong and the director of the USDA Agricultural Trade Office in Hong Kong.

During the fair, CCI displayed six cotton-friendly technologies from CCI’s new “What’s New in Cotton” programme, while Cotton Incorporated displayed its new fabric developments. (GK)
