In the first quarter of 2025 (Q1), China's railway network transported 970 million tonnes of cargo, up 3.1 per cent year on year (YoY).

Daily loading amounted to 179,000 cars, an increase of 4.2 per cent YoY, according to China State Railway Group Co, Ltd.

China-Central Asia freight trains operated a total of 3,582 services, marking a YoY surge of 25.5 per cent.

In another move, Wuhan in Central China's Hubei Province launched its first regularly scheduled freight train, bound for Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. The inaugural train is expected to arrive at its destination in 10 days, a state-controlled news agency said quoting a report on the government's website. 

The China-Laos Railway, which links Kunming in southwest China's Yunnan Province and the Laotian capital Vientiane, transported 1.51 million tonnes of cross-border cargo in the first quarter of 2025, up 10 per cent YoY.
