China’s total power usage rose by 2.9 per cent year-on-year in the first half of 2022 to 4.1 trillion kilowatt-hours, according to the National Energy Administration (NEA). The country’s manufacturing industry also displayed the fastest growth rate in June as work and production in industries quickly resumed. The increase in China’s electricity consumption in recent times indicates the prompt recovery of its economic and production activities.

China’s electricity consumption in the second half of 2022 is projected to rise by around 7 per cent along with a faster growth rate compared to the January-June 2022 period, as per the China Electricity Council.

“The recovery in the growth rate of electricity consumption in June reflected the positive effects of the current resumption of work and production,” said Wang Yixuan, a China Electricity Council official.

The China Electricity Council has recommended that authorities make sure that a balance is maintained between power supply and demand during peak power consumption periods and the stable supply of power fuels is protected.
