Chinese cotton imports down in 2011

China imported 145,000 tons of cotton in May, down 53,000 tons, or 27 percent year on year, according to customs statistics.

The country completed total cotton imports of 1.206 million tons from January to May, down 11.7 percent year on year.

As of May, total cotton imports marked 2.092 million tons, an increase of 9.2 percent year on year in the current cotton year (September-August).
