Chinese cotton output may plunge to below six million tons in the next cotton season, says a research paper.
The paper titled – “Rural Green Paper” was released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences at a seminar to analyse and forecast trends in various agriculture crops.
The paper said that China's cotton production is likely to decline to below 6 million tons, mainly due to cotton prices and continued rise of in material input prices.
The seminar made a number of forecasts on China's rural economy and production of other crops in 2012.
However, the paper was of the opinion that farmers' incomes will continue to maintain a high growth this year.
