Chinese cocoon and raw silk production may slightly increase in 2013, said a top official of a silk trade body.

YANG Yong-Yuan, president of the China Silk Association, said at a recently held meeting that national cocoon and raw silk production may slightly increase in 2013, but growth will be limited, supply and demand will be basically balanced.

It is expected that cocoon and silk prices will be relatively stable in the first half of this year, and the second half of the year may be better than the first half.

“Economic operation of cocoon & silk industry will present a trend of low in early year, stable in mid-year and higher in late year, while development of the industry is expected to be better than 2012,” he said.
