Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, a leading art college has been accused of removing the weaving course from the curriculum as a cost-cutting measure. Professional weavers and textile students jointly have condemned this decision taken by the college management.
Blaming the decision, students of the collage grieved that they are not left with sufficient time to seek place for similar course at other colleges in Britain. Though finance is a big issue for universities and colleges across UK, it has been attempted very disappointingly by Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art's management, said a weaver. This college was among the very few colleges, where weaving is taught in Scotland that has a rich cultural craft heritage.
A 2:1 ratio of staff and student is required for the weaving course, but the very small number of students was absorbing a growing percentage of the budget. The college management took the decision to drop weaving from the curriculum following a considerable discussion, as per a college spokesman.
