Mexican company Desserto has won another international sustainability award. It has now become winner of Monte-Carlo Fashion Week 2020 (MCFW) edition, the official fashion event of the Principality of Monaco organised under patronage of MSM, Princess Charlene of Monaco which includes Monte-Carlo Fashion Awards to recognise emerging figures in this field.

Federica Nardoni Spinetta, creator of the MCFW, president and founder of the Chambre Monegasque de la Mode (CMM) and the Fashion Council of the Principality of Monaco, along with Sara Sozzani Maino, deputy director of Vogue Italia, special projects, head of vogue talents and of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, announced for the first time a Mexican company, Adriano Di Marti, with Desserto, the world's first vegan cactus leather, as the winner of the MCFW Sustainability Award for their contribution to fashion sustainability.

The CMM has honoured a distinguishable brand for its efforts in protecting the environment and playing an active role in ushering positive changes and supporting sustainability by creating eco-friendly garments.

Last March Desserto was crowned in Munich Germany as the winner of the VII International Green Product Award 2020, a category of materials that had a record participation of 1,463 products, materials and concepts created for a more sustainable future from 52 countries.

With these recognitions, the vegan cactus leather, created by Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez, is established in the world market as one of the most innovative and recognised materials in the field of sustainability in fashion.

Spinetta, created Monte Carlo Fashion Week in 2013 as a talent incubator and platform of high quality and excellence, promoting new emerging designers from countries around the world.

“In this emergency situation, a series of reflections has been imposed,” said Spinetta. “From sustainability to the rationalisation of production, through creativity and the consequences of the pandemic: fashion does not stop and discusses a new chapter of your future on an interactive path.”

One of the goals of the MCFW is to follow the guidelines of Prince Albert II of Monaco: protect the planet by raising awareness and meeting sustainable and ethical standards in fashion.
