Pakistan’s Punjab state has imposed Section-144, which prohibits an assembly of more than four people in an area, to discourage early sowing of cotton crop, according to state agriculture secretary Muhammad Mahmood. The decision was taken to save the crop from insect and pest attack, particularly pink bollworm and address production decline.
Early sowing of cotton crop acts as a breeding ground for the pest.
