Eurostat estimates that 13.04 million people were unemployed across the EU in December 2025, including 10.79 million in the euro area. Unemployment fell month on month by 94,000 in the EU and 61,000 in the euro area, while year on year it rose by 71,000 in the EU but declined slightly by 5,000 in the euro area.
In December 2025, around 2.86 million people under 25 were unemployed in the EU, including 2.26 million in the euro area. The youth unemployment rate edged down to 14.7 per cent in the EU and 14.3 per cent in the euro area. Youth unemployment fell both month on month and year on year across the EU and the euro area.
In December 2025, the unemployment rate for women was 6.0 per cent in the EU, down from 6.1 per cent in November 2025, and the unemployment rate for men was 5.8 per cent, stable compared with the previous month. In the euro area, the unemployment rate for women was 6.4 per cent and the unemployment rate for men was 6.1 per cent, both stable compared with the previous month.
