Free power to benefit handloom, powerloom weavers in TN

Handloom and powerloom weavers in Tamil Nadu will now benefit from free power supply. One of the first decisions that Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa took after being sworn in for a second consecutive term, was to announce free power in different slabs for both domestic and industrial customers.
While handloom weavers will get 200 units of free power, powerloom weavers will get 750 units without being charged.
The Tamil Nadu Power loom Federation has thanked Jayalalithaa for the free power supply. M. S. Mathivanan, President, Tamil Nadu Power loom Federation issued a statement hailing Jayalalithaa for the free power supply which will be a great relief to the small power loom weavers, as power formed a major input in fabric weaving.
This gesture of the Chief Minister will enable the power loom industry to strive well and produce textiles at a competitive price and pave way for fetching good orders from the domestic and international markets, Mathivanan added. (SH)
