India's polyester & viscose yarn prices up on weak rupee, short supply

Viscose yarn prices surged by &#****;** per kg in Surat and &#****;** per kg in the Mumbai market. Market sources said that, in addition to rising import costs of viscose yarn, slow supply from domestic manufacturers also pushed prices higher. Demand from the consumer industry increased ahead of the wedding season starting next month.

The Ludhiana market saw a price rise in polyester-cotton and polyester spun yarn. Prices gained &#****;** per kg over the past week. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre*Fashion, “The falling rupee against the US dollar has made imports costlier. A recent increase in polyester raw material prices has also raised production costs. The market has seen better lifting from the consumer industry over the past two weeks.”
