The Ludhiana market witnessed steadiness in polyester-cotton and polyester yarn prices. However, PC yarn is likely to see higher seasonal demand. PC garments are expected to experience good demand during the summer season. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, “Currently, PC and polyester yarn are being traded steadily. However, PC yarn may see an upward trend due to seasonal demand. Polyester yarn will take direction based on price movements in the upstream industry.”
In Ludhiana, 30-count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹210-220 (approximately $2.43-2.55) per kg (GST inclusive); 30-count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹196-206 (approximately $2.27-2.39) per kg; 20 recycled polyester at ₹114-125 (approximately $1.32-1.45) per kg; 30-count polyester spun at ₹158-165 (approximately $1.83-1.91) per kg (GST inclusive); recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹79-82 (approximately $0.92-0.95) per kg; and virgin polyester fibre at ₹101.50 (approximately $1.18) per kg.
Surat’s polyester yarn market also noticed steadiness in specialised polyester yarn, such as fully drawn yarn (FDY). According to market sources, the local market is experiencing tight payment conditions. Buyers are expected to be cautious in purchasing from MSME units in the coming month due to the payment time limit until the end of the financial year.
In the Surat market, 30-count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹146-147 (approximately $1.69-1.70) per kg (GST extra); 40-count polyester spun yarn at ₹159-160 (approximately $1.84-1.85) per kg; 50/48 fully drawn yarn (FDY) at ₹115-116 (approximately $1.33-1.34) per kg; 75/72 FDY at ₹105-106 (approximately $1.22-1.23) per kg; and 75 bright yarn at ₹105-106 (approximately $1.22-1.23) per kg.
Viscose yarn has seen strong demand amid limited supply. As a result, viscose yarn prices increased by ₹3-4 per kg in the Surat market, which is one of the main regions for the production of downstream products of viscose yarn. However, the Mumbai market did not experience a similar rise in viscose yarn prices. Buyers were actively seeking raw materials in this market as well. Trade sources indicated that the upcoming festival and wedding season has encouraged the fabric and garment industry to ramp up production. The wedding season is expected in the coming months, and the Eid festival will be observed in the last week of March. Viscose yarn is primarily used in women’s garments, and demand in this segment typically increases during wedding and festival seasons. The rising US dollar against the Indian rupee has also increased the landed cost of viscose yarn.
In Mumbai, imported 30-count viscose vortex yarn was priced at ₹197-203 (approximately $2.28-2.35) per kg, while local 30-count ring-spun viscose yarn was priced at ₹201-206 (approximately $2.33-2.39) per kg. In Surat, 30-count viscose compact yarn (local) was sold at ₹214-216 (approximately $2.48-2.50) per kg (GST extra), and 30-count viscose vortex yarn was priced at ₹203-205 (approximately $2.35-2.37) per kg.
In North India, cotton prices remained stable following a gradual increase in the previous trading sessions. Markets witnessed limited trade, and arrivals were also lower.
