Industrial production remained stable year on year (YoY) in the euro area and decreased by 0.2 per cent in the EU in the month.
In December 2024, industrial production fell by 0.4 per cent MoM in the euro area and by 0.2 per cent in the EU.
In the euro area in January, industrial production increased by 1.6 per cent MoM for intermediate goods, decreased by 1.2 per cent MoM for energy, increased by 0.5 per cent MoM for capital goods, decreased by 0.2 per cent MoM for durable consumer goods and decreased by 3.1 per cent for non-durable consumer goods.
In the EU, industrial production increased by 1.5 per cent MoM for intermediate goods, decreased by 2 per cent MoM for energy, increased by 0.1 per cent MoM for capital goods, decreased by 0.3 per cent MoM for durable consumer goods and decreased by 4.1 per cent for non-durable consumer goods.
The highest monthly increases were recorded in Lithuania (plus 4.6 per cent), Portugal (plus 3.7 per cent) and Austria (plus 3.3 per cent). The largest decreases were observed in Malta (minus 12.9 per cent), Denmark (minus 10.6 per cent) and Slovakia (minus 7.3 per cent).
In the euro area in January industrial production decreased by 0.8 per cent YoY for intermediate goods, decreased by 1.6 per cent YoY for energy, decreased by 2.7 per cent YoY for capital goods, increased by 0.9 per cent YoY for durable consumer goods and increased by 6.7 per cent for non-durable consumer goods, an Eurostat release said.
In the EU in the same month, industrial production decreased by 0.3 per cent YoY for intermediate goods, decreased by 2.1 per cent YoY for energy, decreased by 2.8 per cent YoY for capital goods, increased by 1.3 per cent YoY for durable consumer goods, increased by 5.5 per cent YoY for non-durable consumer goods.
The largest YoY decreases were recorded in Slovakia (minus 5.1 per cent), Denmark (minus 4.4 per cent) and Hungary (minus 4 per cent). The highest increases were observed in Ireland (plus 10.4 per cent), Lithuania (plus 9.8 per cent) and Croatia (plus 7.6 per cent).
