During the Iranian calendar year that ended on March 20, 2013, the country exported around 16 million tons of petrochemical products worth US$ 12 billion, Tehran Times reported quoting Iranian Deputy Oil Minister Abdolhossein Bayat as saying.

Iran’s petrochemical production capacity, which grew by 13.2 percent during last year to 60 million tons, is expected to reach about 100 million tons by 2015, Mr. Bayat said.

Last year, Iran exported its petrochemical products to around 60 countries with Central Asia, Africa, Far East and Southeast Asia being its key export destinations.

Earlier in February this year, while unveiling the country’s plan of setting up three new petrochemical hubs in near term, Mr. Bayat said these projects would help the country grow into the largest petrochemical producer in the Middle East.

Over the past few years, Iran has remarkably expanded the production volume and product range of its petrochemical products, following which National Petrochemical Company (NPC) has become Middle East’s second biggest manufacturer and exporter of petrochemical products, next to Saudi Arabia.
